2. How to add additional server shares
Ingredients (You will need)
- Your Mac computer
- Server address, username and password (not sure what this is, see steps below to reset)
- Connected to your work WiFi network OR If accessing the server from outside the office network, you will need a VPN set up on your device and connected.
1. Connect to the Server
1.1 - If you're not on your company network, you'll need to switch on your VPN first.
1.2 - Once VPN is connect. Click Go on the menu bar and then click Connect to Server.
1.2 - If you've connected to the server from this computer before, you should have a server address listed (something like smb://192.168 etc. etc.) If you do not, ask your IT person! Click Connect.
1.3 - When prompted, enter your Username and Password. Then click Connect. If you're unsure of what your server details are, just ask IT)
1.4 - Select the shared folder(s) you wish to mount on your Mac. Click OK
1.5 - This will then open the mounted folders on your computer. You can then drag these to the sidebar or to the dock for easy access. You can also have them appear on your desktop, to enable this setting click on click Finder > Finder Preferences and ensure the "Connected Servers" box is ticked.
1.6 - If you'd like the server folders to automatically open on startup, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Select Login Items > Click the + icon > Select the server folders you wish to have load up on startup. Click the Padlock icon to lock any further changes.
2. How to add additional server shares
2.1 - If you already have access to shares on the server, you can add more by going to Finder and clicking the Go menu.
2.2 - Next click Connect to server... > When the box appears, type in the server address supplied by IT starting smb:// (if it's listed below just click it).
2.3 - The next thing that should happen is a list of shares assigned to you should appear, with those already mounted greyed alongside any not yet mounted.
2.4 - Go ahead and click the available new shares to mount them.
2.5 - Lastly, follow step 1.6 above to make sure the additional shares automatically open on startup if you want them to.
